At the time visitors of the exhibition
are informed about individual orthodox diseases, about pathology
in general and about the building ("Madhouse Tower -
Narrenturm"). There are approximately 50 000 objects
exhibited at the museum at present. The indivdual subject areas
are represented by four types of exhibits used by the museum.
These are the following:
Pathology: Science of disease and resulting changes in the body. Pathology is classified in functional pathology and pathological anatomy (focused on structural pathogenesis and its description). A collection of pathological preparations is meant to present the disease, its course, states of changes, and occurrence. Well documented cases have allowed to observe the clinical pictures of particular diseases already over a period of more than 200 years. It has been possible to observe differences in morphology with or without therapy and to analyse interrelations between organic systems.
It is of importance for us to express our deep respect for the mortal remains of those human beings whose suffering deserves our utmost concern. Out of this concern many of us feel bound to practise in medical professions; and to find ways and means to save the present and future generations of similar afflictions.
