"The Exhibition of Human Anatomy in The Public"
Dear Sir or Madam,
We would like to invite you to an event at The Federal Museum of Pathology and Anatomy, Spitalgasse 2, 13, Hof / Uni Campus, 1090 Vienna. The topic of the event is titled “The Exhibition of Human Anatomy in The Public”.
In 2003, experts started to discuss the guidelines and principles (resulting in the “Stuttgart Recommendations) of handling preparations from human tissues in museums and other public places.
The growing public interest in scientific collections has once again raised the ethical questions about the responsibility of those responsible for museums and collections regarding the public.
Discussions with specialists, who by virtue of their jobs at museums, are preoccupied and confronted daily with this complex question will contribute to developing one’s own position, as well as representing affected museums and collections.
The Vienna conference should, above all, shed light from different angles on aspects of the work of the media and the position of the scientific use of preserved museum preparations.
We therefore invite everyone who is interested in addressing this event to send a synopsis of 500 words maximum to pat@via.at or to fax number: 01/4068672/5 or post to The Federal Museum of Pathology and Anatomy, Spitalgasse 2, 1090 Vienna by 15 February 2008.
The invitation is also extended to those who would like to participate in the event without submitting or presenting a paper and we cordially ask you to contact us if you require any further information.
